Abstract

By posing a Benjamin's critique to the notion of living (the term used here contemplates both connotations: Erlebnis and Erfahrung) related to the work of Charles Baudelaire, we will discuss how the poet, for whom tout devient allégorie, by means of this resource puts an emphasis on the condition of the modern man subjugated by the technê. From a methodological perspective anchored to the historical materialism of Walter Benjamin, our hypothesis claims that, by inserting himself in a bizarre space, the poet-flâneur leaves the surrounding world (that he sees vanishing) to settle down into an inner one, thus promoting the rise of a phantasmagoric inventory and gathering in the city debris the remains that will carry new meanings. This is, then, the task that the poet assumes, who will create his verses from the fragments that he manages to gather, distinguishing the important from the trivial ones. It is from this abstracted way of the tradition, by resorting to an aesthetic that's able to restore in the form of the allegorical object the aura, taken away by said phantasmagory, that Baudelaire makes emerge what transcends and what stands out over the experiences, which it's separated from the linear time, restituting to poetry the possibility of the reintegration in the scope of history.
