Abstract

In this text, I invite you to review part of my ethnographic experience in two public schools in Montevideo. Both opened the doors for me to enter a 3rd year for 3 months (approximately), there I was able to decant and contrast all the theory that I accumulated during the bibliographic review prior to field work. In these paragraphs, I propose to show you aspects that are intertwined with the daily life of boys and girls who attend public schools. Aspects that can promote or hinder the respect of the four principles established by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (best interest, non-discrimination, participation and progressive autonomy). Here you will find a critique of the power structures that govern our society and permeate the school environment, examining how the participation and empowerment of children in decision-making and in shaping their own future is affected.
