The Guía quincenal de la actividad artística e intelectual argentina (Biweekly Guide of the Argentine Artistic and Intellectual Activity) was a bulletin and cultural magazine published from 1947 to 1950, by the Comisión Nacional de Cultura (National Committee of Culture) (1933-1954). It aimed to promote and promulgate Argentine artistic activity as part of a larger national cultural planning. This article focuses on the Guide section dedicated to dance, named “Choreography.” The first part of the article describes and analyzes the publication and its inclusion of dance, and then, we study the notion of ‘choreography’ in this context. The hypothesis argues that the choice of the concept of choreography, by the Committee and the Guide, to refer to the dance practice, is related to two issues: on the one hand, it helped to establish the art of dance, which was still incipient in Argentina, and very heterogeneous; and on the other hand, it referred to the will to praise the specific artistic labor required to do this art, and its workers.
