The work of María Inés Silva Vila has not been too studied by the contemporary critics. In this sense this article intends to be a contribution to a greater visibility of a part of her work, as well as to contribute to the existent meagre critical body of work. Two short stories will be studied: “La muerte tiene mi altura” (“Death Has My Own Height”) and “Una pluma de pájaro” (“A Bird´s Feather”) from La mano de nieve (1951) (The Hand of Snow) in which some elements, worthy to be related with the psychoanalytical discourse, are revealed, problematizing the link and the discrepancies between reality and unreality, balance and disruption. The article will also focus on the way in which the interstices in the edge between the protagonist´s Self and the Other are manifested.
