Abstract

This paper aims to review how the northern topography is transformed into the locus of violence from the analysis of three stories of the first book of stories by Eduardo Antonio Parra, Los límites de la noche (Era, 1996) where the night wandering figures that teem in the border area, in the Monterrey city, are subjected to the most varied nuances of social violence that marginalizes condemnation and sometimes annihilates its inhabitants. Referencing some theoretical elements of El relato en perspectiva from Luz Aurora Pimentel, this essay will focus on three main aspects: the night as a locus of violence in “La noche más oscura” (the spatial dimension of the story), the nocturnal animal in the urban barbarism in “Como una diosa” (the actorial dimension of the story) and night transiting voices in the world narrated in “El Pozo” (the forms of narrative enunciation).
